Originaly from Cornwall, Sovay Berriman returned in 2015 to train as a plumber and heating installer after time working in arts and education in Bristol and London. Sovay was keen to join an industry that is essential to all our homes and lives - keeping our drinking water clean and flowing - and at the forefront of climate response. Sovay comprehends how the agile and practical problem solving skills of a creative are be highly valuable in a built environment space.
Sovay’s early career was grounded in housing and youth work with the YWCA and Truro Young Women’s Centre, of which Sovay was a co-founder. Returning to education as a mature student Sovay gained an MA Sculpture from the Royal College of Art, London, in 2003, and has since continued to exhibit artwork and produce participatory projects locally and internationally.
Sovay is a qualified teacher for post-complusory education, regularly leads art and culture events, talks and workshops, is a Clore Leadership Fellow, and a qualified one-to-one coach, offering coaching and mentoring to creatives, plumbers and anyone who is looking for a thinking partner.
Sovay brings the wealth of this 30+ year career to all their work. Approaching proposals and surveys with care and consideration, conversations and consulatancy with listening and understanding, and holds confidence and pragmatism in decision-making and guidance.
